One word to describe these biscuits…..easy, easy, easy. It takes about 10 minutes to get them on the pan and 10 minutes to bake. Done,… BAM! Biscuits are one of my favorite things, and this recipe has become my go to biscuit recipe simply because I can whip them up FAST….. oh, and they’re yummy too!
This recipe calls for shortening. I’m pretty picky about the kinds of fats I use, so the only shortening I use anymore is organic palm shortening that I get here. Butter works great in these biscuits too, it just takes longer to blend in the butter.
Start by mixing the flours, sugar, baking powder, cream of tartar, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
Cut in the shortening until it resembles small crumbs.
Stir an egg and the milk into the flour mixture until well combined.
Drop dough by the spoonful onto a baking sheet to make 12 biscuits. (it will be a little sticky)
Bake at 450° for 10 to 12 minutes.
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 2 tablespoon sugar
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon cream of tartar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup shortening or butter
- 1 egg
- ¾ cup milk
- Mix the first 6 dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Cut in the shortening until you have small crumbs. Add the egg and milk and stir well. Drop dough by the spoonful onto a baking sheet to make 12 biscuits. Bake at 450° for 10 to 12 minutes.
