Jess keeps saying “we didn’t get much of a summer”. He means it didn’t get as hot as he would like and now fall has hit! We harvested everything we could from the garden yesterday and this morning it was hailing and trying to snow!! We’re really not ready for this, but no one asked us and here it comes, ready or not!
We did enjoy some warm beautiful days in September and got more harvesting and preserving done. Hope you like this months photos.
We harvested all the beets…
and canned them.
The peppers went crazy!!!
I made Jalapeno jelly for the first time!
This is what we harvested yesterday before the freeze!
We put the green tomatoes in the shop window to see if they will ripen up!
Jess harvested A LOT of herbs and dried them!
The cantaloupe did GREAT this year. It tastes like candy!
We’ve had three sick kittens in the shop for over a week now. Unfortunately we lost one, even though it had been on antibiotics for days. The other two are doing GREAT and are terrorizing everything and everyone in the shop, including the dogs!! This picture was taken a few days ago and you can still see her swollen eye. Yesterday when I went to give them breakfast ALL the swelling was gone!
The chickens have slowed down a bit on egg production, but we have a batch of pullets that will start laying in October. I don’t think we will want for eggs this winter!
The triplets that were born in August are growing like crazy. We tragically lost their mama a couple days ago. Thankfully they are big enough to be weaned. They miss their mama, but are suffering no ill effects. They are taking it better than I am…
They’re still so darn cute!! Hopefully we have better luck with our animals in October!
In honor of fall and the beginning of October we are having a sale on all our fall signs, plus free shipping! You can check it out here.
Happy fall to all of you!

Dear Jess,Grace and family
Thank you for the wonderful photos. Was so sorry to hear you lost mommy goat. What happened?
Janine lost her kitty of many years last week. As it was her child she is very sad. He slept with her and was on her any time she sat down. I am loaning my old kitty Oliver to keep her company for awhile so she won’t be alone.
Hope my box arrived for Grace.
Will see if Ingrid and I can still pop in for a visit this fall. Love Gin

Hi Gin!
Poor Janine, it’s no fun to loose a special pet!! Hope to see you soon!
Grace
Yes I received the box! Thank you so much!

Love the pictures, sorry to hear you lost the nanny goat. What happened to her? We’ve been experiencing a long warm dry spell here. No corn crop for most of our farmers unless they could irrigate. Still, a couple of the larger farms have corn mazes set up for Halloween. It also looks like there won’t be enough grass to sustain cattle this fall and winter if we don’t get rain very soon. So much for NE TN! Thanks for the recipes. I really enjoy reading your blog.

Thank you Brenda, We’re not exactly sure what happened to our goat. She was sick in the morning, went down and died shortly after. We had called the vet and given her what she recommended. The vet was on her way when she died??
The weird weather sure has been hard on everyone’s crops this year!
Hope you get some rain soon,
Grace
