If you’ve never made applesauce you should definitely try this! Applesauce is one of the easiest things to make and the slow cooker makes it even easier. Homemade applesauce is SO much better than store bought! AND…it’s one of the easiest things to can. If you are wanting to start home canning, applesauce is a great place to start!
Guess what?… To start making applesauce you will need APPLES! If you have several different kinds of apples that’s even better. The more the merrier! But, don’t use old tasteless or sour apples and expect to get a delicious applesauce…. 🙂
Yummy Apples = Yummy Applesauce
This is not an exact recipe and how much you make will depend on how big your slow cooker is. Peel and slice enough apples to fill your slow cooker. Mine holds 6 quarts and it made 8 cups of applesauce. I didn’t count how many apples it took to fill it (sorry).
When the slow cooker is full of peeled and sliced apples sprinkle on 1 to 2 tablespoons of pumpkin pie spice mix. (Here is a link to my homemade pumpkin pie spice mix.) There is no need to add any water when making applesauce in the slow cooker like you do when using the stove top. Just cover and cook for 4 hours on high or 8 hours on low.
After the applesauce cools for a bit you can use an immersion blender to make it nice and smooth or if you like it lumpy you can just leave it as is….I like it either way, it’s just darn delicious!

Told you it was easy!
