It took me about 3 years to get this taco seasoning just right. Ridiculous, I know! Maybe we don’t eat tacos enough and I didn’t get to experiment very often, or maybe I’m super picky (no, not me) or, it might have had something to do with the fact that I kept loosing the recipes I had tried and kept having to start over.
ANYWAY, I finally achieved a pretty basic and delicious mix that I love having on hand!
You will need 3 tablespoons of cumin powder, 2 teaspoons of smoked paprika, 1/2 a teaspoon of red pepper flakes, 1 teaspoon of oregano, 1 teaspoon of onion powder, 1/2 a teaspoon of garlic powder, 2 teaspoons of salt and 2 teaspoons of arrow root powder (or corn starch).
This taco seasoning is pretty mild, so if you like more of a kick, you can add ground pepper, cayenne pepper or more red pepper flakes.
Measure all your ingredients into a small container (this will make 6 tablespoons) and shake or stir it up. Now you’re ready to make tacos!
For ground beef taco meat: Brown the ground beef and drain any excess fat. Add 2 tablespoons of taco seasoning and 1/4 cup of water for every pound of ground beef.

- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 teaspoons arrow root powder or corn starch
- Stir or shake all the ingredients together.
- Use 2 tablespoons of taco seasoning and ¼ cup of water for every pound of cooked and drained ground beef.
