How To (Frugally) Organize Your Spice Cabinet

When I started cooking meals from scratch and make my own spice mixes I quickly realized how fast we were going through spices and seasonings. I found Mountain Rose Herbs online, and it wasn’t long before I started buying from them in bulk; most of which comes in bags that I just refill my spice containers from. The problem with this is,…..the bags are big,.. the spice containers are small,… and my little cupboard is in a never ending state of random chaos.

How to frugally organize your spice cabinet

I was tired of the wreck and wanted to be able to find what I needed when I needed it. So, I went on pinterest to collect some ideas on how to organized my spice cabinet for good. There are tons of cute, convenient, and well organized ideas out there,… but I really wanted to spend like….$0.00. So this is what I came up with (and I LOVE IT!)

I started by putting the whole stinking mess on my island so I could see what I really had.

I’ve been gathering recycled glass containers for awhile now; old jam jars, some cute recycled salad dressing jars and of course mason jars. I found some waterproof, chalkboard labels on amazon and a metallic sharpie. These were my only expenses for this project and they cost about $10.00. (and I have several labels left over for other projects).

I consolidated the many small redundant containers (I actually hade 4 containers of basil!?) into individual larger jars, labeled them all and put them away in the cupboard again. I was so pleased with my glass jars with cute labels on them, but I still couldn’t see the jars that were in the back, so Jess built me this little shelf!

Now, I can actually SEE the labels on the jars in the back of the cupboard!!! You really don’t need shelves, anything that will elevate the jars in the back so you can see the labels will work! (I was seriously thinking of using my grown boys old Legos)

This is soooooo much better! This cupboard fit all of my single spices and I did the same thing on another shelf with my seasoning mixes and other randomness.

Now, if you want to get a little O.C.D. with your cupboard and use uniform bottles and arrange them by what’s most commonly used, or alphabetically, or even in the proper order according to color harmony then go for it!! For me, it’s just makes life easier to know where everything is and be able to see what I need and when I’m running out of something. Hope you can use some of these ideas in your spice cabinet!

Instagram post 2212814907873718384_2218172047 Another day, another Dr. Appointment. We've decided to call them dates. We're together, we have uninterrupted conversation and we usually eat at some point. I think that qualifies as a date! Probably the only good thing about Jess's degenerative spinal issues and most Dr's being 2 hours away! We will have lots of dates in 2020! 😍❤

Instagram post 2211234761337251555_2218172047 2019 was a year of trying new things. Some of them were successes and some complete failures. I'm okay with the failures though, because we learned...A LOT! Lord willing we'll take those lessons learned into 2020 and have even more successful ventures! Happy New Year friends!
