If you find yourself scraping the frosting off of your cake and leaving it on the side of your plate at birthday parties because it’s just too sweet…..this recipe is for you!!!

homemade frosting

I came up with this recipe several years ago in an attempt to reduce the amount of sugar being consumed at my little nieces birthday party.  Yeah, I was worried that it wouldn’t be sweet enough to satisfy those expecting to have “regular frosting”, but hey, sometimes you have to stand your ground.  After many compliments and several requests for the recipe I realized I wasn’t the only one that didn’t like that super sweet “regular frosting”!  The kids loved it, the adults loved it, and I loved that all those little girls weren’t eating tons of sugar!

All you need is two ingredients! 1 – 8oz. package of softened cream cheese and 1/2 a cup of no sugar added jam or jelly.  I used raspberry, and the brand I bought calls it “spreadable fruit”.  I just love that it’s fruit sweetened!

Whip the softened cream cheese in a mixer until smooth then add half a cup of jam or jelly and whip until smooth and fluffy. This will take a couple minutes.  That’s it!  Use this on cakes or cookies, or even on pancakes or french toast! I’m tellin’ ya’, it’s really that good!
