clean microwave

First of all I want to make it clear that I used a random microwave to take pictures for this post.  I certainly don’t know anyone who would let their microwave get this splattered, greasy and disgusting.   Well, ok maybe I know this person but we won’t name any names.  I wouldn’t want to embarrass anyone.

So here’s the random microwave before picture……..yuck!

All you have to do to turn this greasy mess into shiny loveliness is place a microwave safe bowl with water, vinegar, and a few drops of essential oils in the microwave for 5 minutes.  It will boil and soften up the nasty mess and you can just wipe it out with a damp cloth…..that’s it!

See, now MY microwave looks just like this! 😉

I use 1 cup of water, 1/2 cup of white vinegar and several drops of a lemon essential oil.  The oil is optional but it hides the strong hot vinegar smell very well and it has antibacterial properties.

Extra tip:  When you pull the boiling hot bowl of water and vinegar out of the microwave don’t just dump it down the drain.  I use the water to soak my dirty dish sponges.  Between the boiling hot water/vinegar and antibacterial oil you will have clean, fresh smelling sponges.  It can also be used to rinse your wash rag in while you scrub down any nonporous surface in your kitchen.

Happy spring cleaning!
